Food that has to be......

Traditions with food. This is something I actually know! My mom started traditions with certain foods when I was a child. Christmas for her is a big one. We have things that are a given that have to be made each year, the sad thing is that we may not even like that particular item any more but we've always made it so it has to be done!! Each Christmas for my 41yrs, my mom has made a candy from a family recipe.. It's called potato candy, yeah, I know, sounds gross, but it's not bad! You basically boil a potato, mash it up, add evaporated milk, tons of powdered sugar to make it in to a thick dough.. You roll it out on the cutting board, spread it with peanut butter and roll it up and then slice it into little pinwheels basically.. No Christmas is complete without this. We may not eat all we make, but it's always been done and always will be.
I guess maybe this means we are too predictable! Ok, I have a weird one for my daughters who are 23, 20 and 14. Their special holiday treat, this is sick sorry and so unhealthy!! But each holiday, their treat is two cans of canned cheese!! You know the kind in the squeezy bottles! It's expensive and horrible for you, so when my girls were really young we limited it to holidays and now as adults and one teenager, they come to expect it!
I love the idea of traditions when it comes to food. I think it is one thing that bonds us as a family and also as a community. Some of the foods that are prepared are ones that have been made for years and it's continued because it is a tradition!

My Wallet = Danger!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to laugh because over the years, the size of my purse has grown! I use to laugh at my sister in law who carries a purse that is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought just clean the darn thing out! How much stuff do you honestly need to take with you? Here I had this little purse, fit my wallet with the basics residing inside. What else do you need? Well, fast forward many years and I have become my sister in law! Ok, not AS bad, but bad. I could slip over that line very easily if I could part with my current purse!

If I were to lose my purse and someone found it and tried to locate the owner of said purse, the first thing they would say is, yeah, umm, forget it! I'm NOT going in there! Just opening my purse the first thought would be, "oh my!" Someone is a little too busy to even shred receipts! There have been times that my purse resembles a Jack in The Box. When you open it, everything springs out! I have lost my debit card more times than I can count. I'm usually in a hurry so I just stuff it into my purse, aiming for my wallet and not always hitting it. I have to send in reinforcements, aka my 14yr old daughter, to retrieve it!

The majority of the over abundance of receipts resemble each other..... They are all green for some reason!!! If you have the same addiction as I do, you will know those green receipts...... The dreaded money pit, yes, you guessed it..... Starbucks..... I think if you total up the amount of money spent on all those little green receipts, there would probably be enough to buy a small car! You will notice also that I order that same thing day in and day out...... Ahhhh, so predictable!

Digging a little deeper, you may find a wedding ring.... I think it's still in there! I've been divorced for over a year and what other way to raise a little cash, pawn something you no longer need! Good financial thinking! Ummmm... Ok, maybe not, they will only give me $25.00 for it!! Guess that says something!

Ok, now, dig a little farther, hey change!!! That's it! Not sure what that says about me except that maybe I have a teenage daughter who takes all my bills and only leaves me with change!

Hey! Anyone looking for paint? I have paint sample cards in my purse! Pretty blues and browns for my daughters room!

Moving on into my wallet, still, not much excitement! You may notice that I like to save money. There are the multiple store saver cards. You will see two lightly used credit cards. Learning to live by cash alone has been tough but is definately worth while. There are the YMCA member cards.. Wow! Those look pretty lightly used too!! Guess that's not a good sign!

Reviewing what's inside, guess now I have confirmation that I'm busy AND boring! Nothing good nor exciting!!
